The annual plant sale is known for its large variety of quality perennials from members' yards. They have "potting parties" at the chairman's home in the fall and early spring to insure that the plants are well rooted and will be ready to bloom for you the customers.
A perennial is a plant that comes up year after year. Most lose their leaves and go dormant in the winter here in Oregon. They need to be divided to thrive, thus the Garden Club has extra plants for the sale.
Bi-annual will also available, bi-annuals are plants that usually grow and bloom for a couple of years. These are often self-seeders such as Foxglove.
The plant sale usually has a large number of herbs, succulents and native plants. Iris, a favorite that grows from a tuber, will be available in many colors.
Sometimes the plant sale features some unusual vegetables, shrubs and vines. This year they will have a number of large clumps of 5 foot Vine Maples.
Most 3 gallon plants are $3.00, however some of the more unusual and choice plants, such as Astilbe, Fern and Hosta are a bit more.
